Sunny Sentiments with Soft Pastels & Masked Backgrounds

Happy Monday! I have two Sunny Sentiments cards today, both with made with our Soft Pastels and Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks. A technique video, along with several photos have been included in today’s post. Scroll down for details.

These cards first appeared a few weeks ago during a Facebook Live. Make sure that you join me in Thursday night at 7:30pm for this week’s edition. I’m not going to add oodles of details to this Sunny Sentiments post, because it’s image heavy AND the Soft Pastels technique is shown in the YouTube video below. The technique itself is super easy – you just need the Soft Pastels, Versamark Ink, and a Decorative Mask. Painter’s tape, or a tape with less adhesive, is a great help when trying to ink the card without moving the mask.

Our first card has a very bright feel to it, and I like the sentiment as well. I have a friend who could use some sunny thoughts right now, and although I won’t send this exact card to her (because she has the photo of it), I’m thinking of her while I’m writing this.

Sunny Sentiments is retiring as of May 2nd, and it has larger phrases that you can use on the outside or inside of cards. The colours on this card are both from the Brights colour family, and the Poppy Parade coloured soft pastel was used for the background. I am adding the Colour Chip to the resource page. Bookmark the page so that you always have a quick resource whenever you’re stuck for a colour combination.

The Stitched So Sweetly dies, and the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks are also retiring on May 2nd. These dies will be missed because they give us so many options when die cutting backgrounds and sentiments. Fortunately, the pretty Brushed Brass Butterflies are carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue – which is sitting beside me because it arrived on my porch this morning! Just one of those perks of being a Demonstrator. I’m already planning out my summer events, based on what’s on the catalogue pages.

Our second card features another stamp from the Sunny Sentiments stamp set. It has a very similar layout to the one above, but with a completely different set of colours.

There are more retiring items on this card. Sadly, the Hippo and Friends dies are retiring, as well as the Highland Heather 1/2″ Grosgrain Ribbon. As you all know, I’m not a purple person, even though I have made a lot of purple cards recently.

Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape are the two colours on this monochromatic card, and I have added three rhinestones to capture the shine of the ribbon.

To learn how to create this wonderful background with our Soft Pastels, watch the video below. It’s an easy technique to add to your repertoire, and you can use it with any mask that you have.

The supply list for today’s project can be found at the bottom of the post. It is long because supplies for both cards are listed. Bear in mind that some of the items are retiring, so make sure you order them while they’re still available. If you need any stamping supplies, I would be very happy to be your demonstrator. Our Last Chance List has been released, and there are some definite surprises on there. I just went through the products on the website, and already there is at least one item that is no longer available (Just Jade ink refill). If you love something get it now – possibly on sale!

The Rainbow of Happiness Recipe Cards are available. They contain two Card Sketches, along with 6 finished samples (4 of which are made with the Rainbow of Happiness Bundle), supply lists, and general instructions – all for only $12.95 CDN. The Recipe Cards for all prior months are always available, so there’s no need to fret if you don’t get them right away. Click here for full details of the Recipe Card program.

Thanks for stopping by today. I will be sad to see the Sunny Sentiments stamp set retired, along with the dies that I used to make these cards. I am very happy though that the Soft Pastels will continue to be available in the new catalogue, along with a new style of Decorative Masks. If you have questions or need assistance with any stamping, or papercrafting products or techniques.
