We’re back for another Flamingo Friday, and this week I have an adorable Friendly Flamingo Ombre monthly calendar to share with you. You’ll see that the calendar has the January month showing. Yes, I know that it’s February. I did take the photos of this one in the middle of January because I shared them at an event at that time. (Although, I only just flipped the month a couple of minutes ago!)
Isn’t he cute? I have never made one of these stand up monthly calendars before, and the flamingo is the perfect size for the card. When creating it, I wanted something that would fit over the calendar, and opted to stamp this wonderful phrase from the Friendly Flamingo stamp set. It was stamped on Whisper White cardstock, and die cut with one of our Stitched Rectangles. It’s fascinating to see that the white isn’t really white, but has a bit of ivory in it. I haven’t tried this with our Basic White cardstock yet, but will get there.
It’s an uplifting reminder for anyone who looks at it. A quick word about flamingo stamp sets in general, because I own a… few. Their very nature is that they include phrases that make you feel good. I use them, because everyone needs to feel good. But I digress.
The flamingo itself was die cut with Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo cardstock. A bit of black cardstock was added behind his eye, and his beak was coloured with a Basic Black marker.
Bermuda Bay is a good match for the Flirty Flamingo bird, and is also one of the colours in our Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper that will disappear in 9 days, along with the rest of our Sale-a-bration freebies. I have wrapped some of the Pool Party Sheer Ribbon around the DSP before attaching to the calendar base.
As mentioned above, I have never made one of these before. Did I go to the internet for instructions? No!!! Why would I do that? I have one that a friend gave to me last year. I used that as a template, guessing at measurements along the way because I changed the orientation of it. It worked out in the end, but I would have to make a couple of extras before committing to creating a tutorial for one.
