Festive Foliage Spotlight Technique Cards with Video

Happy Friday! I have 2 Festive Foliage cards today created with the Spotlight Technique. The first card the easiest card to make, because you’re not cutting the circle out of the card base. The second is a bit trickier, because you are cutting the circle from the base, but it’s still quite easy.

The Spotlight Technique essentially allows you to add colour to a specific image, lining it up with stamping on the front of your card. You can also do this with Designer Series Paper. The back side of the paper in the Pattern Party (Host) and Beautifully Penned (Sale-a-bration) Designer Series Paper Packs would work really well for this because the patterns are all in black & white. You can colour, or blend ink onto the sheets and spotlight them on your project.

Festive Foliage is a background stamp found in the Annual Catalogue, and it’s easily missed because the image size is only 60% of the size of the stamp. There’s also only one image which makes it tough to see how it can be used on a card.

On the first card, I stamped the image onto an 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Thick Basic White cardstock. A second image was stamped on a separate piece of cardstock. The Stamparatus was extremely helpful with these steps because I took the time to centre the Festive Foliage stamp, and mark a piece of grid paper for cardstock placement. Doing this guarantees that you have a perfect image on your card base without guessing where it needs to be.

I didn’t die cut the cardstock until after I had finished my colouring, so I ended up using my Stampin’ Blends to colour more of the image than I needed. It’s not a bad thing because it allows you to choose the section that you’d like to highlight after it’s coloured. After die cutting your desired section from the cardstock, glue it flat to the card base. Let’s have a look at the second card.

The second Spotlight Technique card, which is the one that I prefer has similar steps, but in a different order. Stamp the image onto the Thick Basic White card base, and then die cut the circle. At that point you use your Stampin’ Blends to colour the image on the circle that you have cut out.

After colouring, add some adhesive to the back of the circle, line it up, and then stick it down. When the card is open, you’ll be able to see the coloured circle on the inside with space to write your well wishes. Add a bit of Wink of Stella for shimmer (you can do the on the card above too.)

The final steps on both cards is to stamp the greeting from Holly Jolly Wishes onto a piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock, layering a piece of Real Red Mini Ruffled Ribbon underneath. Add a rhinestone for bling. Below is another view of the entire card, along with the video from last night’s Facebook Live.
