Candy Cane Floating Strips Card

Happy Wednesday! Today I’m sharing a Candy Cane Floating Strips card that I made during last Thursday’s Facebook Live. I made 3 different Floating Strips cards last week, and had a lot of fun with the technique. This one I made on the fly, on Facebook, and the one in the video looks a bit different than the one I’m posting today. Let’s have a look.

A few weeks back, I made a completely different card on Facebook that had a Candy Cane background. Because I’m somewhat frugal, I kept the stamped piece, thinking that I would find another use for it… and I did! The Candy Canes Background stamp is large enough to create a background that can be used as is, or chopped down to a smaller size. You may remember that I used it for a One Sheet Wonder set of projects. If you missed it, you can see all of the projects here.

For this project, I randomly sliced the background into strips, taking care to make sure that they were all in order. Each one was then glued onto a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of one of our Window Sheets. I found that gluing them with the Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive allows you a bit of wiggle room to make sure they’re straight and mostly evenly spaced. This piece was then popped up on the Real Red cardbase with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. You can place them behind the strips and no one will ever see them.

On the video, this was the easy part. The sentiment on the front is where things went off the rails because while one of my stampers chose the sentiment, I couldn’t decide how to add it to the card. After the Live was over, I ripped the sentiment off of the card, and started over.

The Holly Jolly Wishes is the stamp set that we are including in our Merry & Bright Virtual Stamping Event Registration. It has some great holiday sentiments, including the one on today’s card.

Choosing a die to cut the sentiment was an issue, because I wanted something large, but not too big. The solution was to stamp the phrase, and die cut it twice so that it fit the space. To make this one, I pulled the die from the Tasteful Labels set. The first photo below shows that this die is too big, and the second shows how I made it fit. To position the image, make sure to position the die near the top of the stamped image before cutting. The second cut is then easy to line up.

See? It’s not difficult, it just requires a tiny bit of planning before you die cut the phrase. I didn’t want it to disappear onto the card, so I added a Real Red circle behind it, just above the floating strips.
