Butterfly Brilliance Card Coloured with Stampin’ Blends

Today’s project combines the Butterfly Brilliance stamp with our wonderful Stampin’ Blends. If you love to colour, this is a relaxing project to work on. Just stamp your butterflies, choose your colours, and enjoy a drink. Personally, black cherry sparkling water does it for me – especially when paired with an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. But I digress.

The Butterfly Brilliance Stamp is a single stamp, with six different sized butterflies. One die has been included in the Brilliant Wings Dies that has been designed to cut all six stamped butterflies at once. It makes it easy to create a stack of butterflies with minimal effort.

On this card though, I only worked with the stamp itself. It was inked with Memento ink, and stamped onto Basic White cardstock. Before I began colouring, I made the decision to only use a 3″ square portion of the stamped image. Those are the butterflies that I coloured, but I do have 2 that weren’t used on this card, and sit on my table waiting for colour.

Choosing colours was easy, as I looked to the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper for inspiration. The colours in the paper are listed on the back of the package, making it easy to pull Blends from the shelf.

The So Saffron colouring around the butterflies was a bit of an accident. When I opened the dark Blend, I discovered that it was saturated with alcohol, something that’s highly unusual. It was also significantly lighter than expected, and I was swishing it around the paper between the butterflies, hoping to blend off some of the alcohol.

While doing this, I completely forgot that I had intended to cut out the panel and add it to the card. Ridiculous, I know, but I was concentrating on the colouring. We’ve all been there! It meant that I had to finish colouring around the images with the damaged So Saffron marker. An unintended mistake that worked itself out. Love it!

Texture was added to this card with a Dainty Diamonds Embossed Layer, along with a bit of the black/white twine from the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack.

I pulled out the Many Messages stamp set and Messages die for the first time when making this card. Over the past number of years I have been horrible at using all of the stamps/dies that I have, and am making a bit effort to use them on my projects. I now have a stack of black sentiments on white paper, ready to be added to projects. They are small, but when framed with coloured mattes, they’ll look fantastic.
