Biggest Wish Card With a Watercolour Wash

Happy Wednesday! Today’s project is a Biggest Wish card with a watercolour wash as a background. It’s really purple. There are three other cards on my table that have some type of a watercolour wash on them, but none are as bright as this one. Check it out…

When playing with backgrounds last weekend, I was aiming to create a bunch of fun and different pieces that I can use on cards. Ink refills and watercolour paper were the first things that I pulled out. The colours on this background are Highland Heather & Gorgeous Grape. Taping your paper with painter’s tape or washi tape to a hard surface, helps prevent colour and water from running everywhere. I’m currently using a set of dollar store cutting boards, because I don’t care whether they become inky.

For this card, I lightly wet the cardstock first with a water painter, and then quickly added Highland Heather ink, going back and forth across the paper. You want it to be fairly wet so the ink will flow, but not so wet that it’s rolling off the sides of the paper. You’ll find that the paper rises a bit in the centre, and water pools at the side. Soak it up with the edges of a paper towel.

While it was still quite wet, I dropped Gorgeous Grape ink onto the paper. It gives you a sunburst effect as the ink moves. You can use your water painter to move it around if you’re not crazy about the splotches. When finished, you’ll have something similar to this on your table. Just let it dry, preferably overnight. You can use your heat tool for faster drying, but it will change the look of the paper as the ink moves around.

Once the paper was completely dry, I cut it down to size, embossing the ‘thanks’ from Biggest Wish with my heat tool and white embossing powder. The watercolour wash background is unique, and you want it to be a feature on your card, rather than covering it all up.

We have two purple ribbons in the catalogue right now, and both are different from each other. The Highland Heather is thicker, with a bright sheen to it. It’s sort of silvery, but it may just be clear shimmery thread woven into the purple. The Gorgeous Grape is a much finer ribbon, allowing you to see the purple underneath. I wove them together and glued them to the back. Adding rhinestones gives you a bit of bling in the opposite corner to anchor the greeting.

Thanks for stopping by today! I enjoy playing with ink, and this Biggest Wish watercolour wash card would be fabulous for someone that loves purple. aThe second watercolour wash card will post here tomorrow. It was made the same way, however the end result is quite different because the paper has been chopped and added to the card. The greeting is different as well, because it doesn’t come from the Biggest Wish stamp set. Enjoy your Wednesday, while I’m at my ‘other job’ encouraging people to buy good books (as opposed to not-so-good books). In the meantime, please email me if you have questions or need help with something and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Until tomorrow, Happy Stamping!
