Happy Thursday! Today’s project is another watercolour wash thank you card. It has a very different look to it from yesterday’s card, even though the technique for the blue pieces is very similar.
This is the second of the backgrounds that I made last weekend. For this piece, I was aiming for a blue background with different ink strengths. Ink refills and watercolour paper were the first things that I pulled out. The colours on this background are Balmy Blue & Pacific Point. Much like the Gorgeous Grape colour from yesterday, Pacific Point is a very deep and deep rich colour As a reminder, taping your paper with painter’s tape or washi tape to a hard surface, helps prevent colour and water from running everywhere.
The technique for this card is similar to yesterday’s project. I lightly wet the cardstock first with a water painter, and then quickly added Balmy Blue ink, going back and forth across the entire length of the paper. You want it to be fairly wet so the ink will flow, but not so wet that it’s rolling off the sides of the paper. You’ll find that the paper rises a bit in the centre, and water pools at the side. Soak it up with the edges of a paper towel.
While it was still quite wet, I added Pacific Point ink to the bottom of the paper, moving it back and forth up the sheet, so that the top is lighter than the bottom. YWhen finished, you’ll have something similar to this on your table. Just let it dry, preferably overnight. You can use your heat tool for faster drying, but it will change the look of the paper as the ink moves around.
Once the paper was completely dry, I cut it down into 1-3/8″ x 1-3/8″ squares. When you do this, make sure that you’re keeping the squares in the same pattern as the original piece of paper because you want the lighter piece at the top. Surprisingly, this is the most difficult part of this project. Once cut, punch the opposite corners of each square, and line them up on the card.
Use a ruler to help line up the pieces, to keep them in their pattern. Attach all with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Stamp the phrase immediately below the squares. I did this after I had attached the squares, but you can do it once the faint ruler marks are on the card (don’t forget to erase them!)
The final step is to add two of the diamond shapes from the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials Pack, and to brush Wink of Stella across the watercolour wash shapes.
