Happy Friday! Today’s card is the Sailing Home Gatefold Card that I made live on Facebook last night. The card that inspired it is also included in today’s post. I’m a tad late posting today because it’s supposed to rain in Southern Ontario tonight and I have a bunch of things to accomplish before it becomes sloshy out there. Like walk the dog because even though there are currently 6 people in our household, I’m generally the one that takes her out. Lucky dog!
A gatefold card is a pretty easy card to make. The score lines are different, because you’re folding each side into the centre. The open card is below so that you can visually see what I mean.
On this card, there are two cardstock panels with pieces of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper glued to them. When you attach these to the card, make sure that you don’t add adhesive across the entire rectangles or you will glue your card shut. I mentioned that repeatedly last night because it’s easy to do. The same holds true for the circles – just add adhesive to the bottom. When closed, the top panel tucks behind the circles.
Our colour combination today is simple, but classic. You can use this on many different projects, and it works especially well on masculine cards. Today’s Colour Chip has been added to the Colour Chip Resources page. Bookmark it so that you can scroll through the Chips whenever you’re in need of inspiration.
If you’d like to see how this Sailing Home gatefold card goes together, please head to Facebook and watch last night’s video. There is a twist on how this card opens and closes, and I have an extra tip about the anchor on the main image. Here are close-ups of the card itself.
Quick measurements for you:
- Card base: 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 2-1/8″ from either end
- Basic White rectangles: 3-3/4″ x 2-1/4″
- Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper: 3-1/2″ x 2″
- Layered Circle Dies: Night of Navy is second largest circle; Basic White is third largest circle
I mentioned above that this card was inspired by a Pansy Patch card. The one below was received from Stephanie Nash in a recent card swap. The general layout is the same, with a large centre image that the top rectangle tucks behind.
Stephanie added Pansy Petals Designer Series Paper to the front rectangles along with a bit of white Bakers Twine and three rhinestones.
Both are wonderful cards, and great examples of gatefold cards, with a slight twist.
