No Line Watercolouring with This Little Piggy

Good afternoon stampers! Today’s card features the No Line Watercolouring technique, with the This Little Piggy stamp set. Stampers created this card at my No Line Watercolouring classes this week, and everyone was pleased to try a new technique.

I like presenting new techniques in my classes because it forces me out of my box, encouraging me to try something new. This cute pig card is the first card that I created for the class, and I stamped and coloured a whole lot of pigs before I came up with this one.

The idea of no line watercolouring is pretty simple. Instead of stamping the image using waterproof ink (Staz-on), stamp the image using Sahara Sand ink instead. It is water soluble, so it will blend into the other colours that you are using, erasing the lines. You want the image to be faint though, so you need to stamp the ink off once or twice on a scrap piece of paper before stamping on your watercolour paper.

No Line Watercolouring Tips:

  • Work from lightest to darkest colours
  • Allow the section that you are working on colour to dry before moving onto an adjacent section. You can continue to colour while the first section dries, you just need to leave space between them. If you don’t, the colours will run into each other.
  • Don’t overwork your colouring because you will end up with a lot of “lines” from where the water dried, in places that you don’t want them
  • Be patient! No Line watercolouring takes time.

When colouring this pig, I jumped around a bit. I began with her head and tail, leaving her snout uncoloured. I then moved to her hooves. Once these were all dry, I went back to colour her body. The dirt, and details on her face were completed once her body was dry.

The Floral Romance Specialty Designer Series Paper and Petal Pink/Whisper Pink 5/8″ Variegated Ribbon will be retiring on June 3rd. The Frosted Flower Embellishments WILL be carrying over. The ribbon on the card was wrapped around the paper, beginning at the back. When the two pieces meet in the front, I twisted them, wrapped them at the back, and secured them. A Petal Pink flower was added to the top of the twist.
