Nine Lives Colour Combos

Good afternoon stampers! Today we’re looking at a few Nine Lives colour combos, which continues to fit very well with last week’s animal theme. We still have one visiting cat, who is making me slightly crazy. Last night he managed to barricade himself in our laundry room. Seriously. Fortunately there is an exterior door in that room and I was able to get him out. On that note, let’s look at today’s card.

Wendy's Little Inklings: Nine Lives Colour Combos

This card was CASE’d from one created by Heather Herdolt, but I completely changed the colour scheme. As with last week’s colour combo card, I chose the colours by using our downloadable colour coach. I can’t stress this enough – if you’re having difficulties choosing colours for your project, this is an excellent resource.

I adore the Subtle Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder. It gives you just a bit of texture without overwhelming the card. Great for a project like this which has lots of white (grey?) space on it.

Here’s a look at the detail of the embossing on the background. You can see that just like the name of the folder, it’s a subtle texture.

The other details on the card were easy to add. The cat was punched with my Cat punch, and the sentiment fits purrfectly on the stitched circle. I fussy cut the ball of yarn and glued it flat to the card.

One of the benefits of this stamp set (along with the Happy Tails dog set) is that you can mix and match colours as well as colouring methods to create custom cats. My chicken scratch on the photo below outlines what I used to create each of the cats. The cat in the top left was stamped with Memento ink and coloured with Stampin’ Blends, while the other three were stamped.

Today’s cat colours are black Memento for the outline and Smoky Slate Classic ink for the stripes. I was going for a grey tabby look. My visiting cat has tabby stripes, but the colouring of a Siamese, complete with blue eyes. I’m NOT going to try and recreate him.

*Tip* To layer colours, you can stamp some spots/stripes at full strength, while stamping others at half strength. If they are different colours, like the one on the bottom left, you can stamp them at full strength.
