Stampin’ Up! Inspired Thoughts Back to Basics Card

Happy Wednesday! Today’s card is a Back to Basics project, using the Inspired Thoughts stamp set. As I mentioned on Monday, it’s a good all purpose set of sayings for the inside and outside of your cards.

I also have a bit of a brand new look for the website! I’m still tinkering with it, because my technological genius (aka my kid) installed it on Monday night. I am pleased though because the font is no longer teeny tiny!

The basic design for this card starts with a base of 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, folded in half. It’s the same size as most cards. A strip of cardstock or Designer Series paper runs down the left side of the card, and the sentiment is stamped in the lower right corner. It’s an easy design to replicate, which is good for beginners.

Generally, you want to keep the colour combination to a minimum, because you want to have lots of ‘white space’ on your project. Today’s colour chip has three colours on it, all from our In Color Collections. Don’t forget that I have added a Colour Chip category in the drop down menu on the right. If you’re stuck for a colour combination, this is a good place to begin.

On this card, I have stamped the sentiment in black. It’s a good basic colour that everyone needs. Adding three of the Pale Papaya In Color Jewels makes it of a focal point on the card. You can take this card up a notch by stamping a very light image overtop of the words. Something like a circle, where the ink has been stamped off on a sheet of scrap paper before it is stamped on the card. You could also stamp the sentiment on a separate piece of cardstock, punch it out, and layer it onto the card, perhaps with a piece of cardstock in behind.

The strip on the side is a thin piece of the Hand Penned DSP. Using colours that have been pulled from a Designer Series Paper pattern is an easy way to make sure that your colours will work together. A piece of coordinating cardstock is underneath for extra oomph.

Don’t you just love the ribbon?? The Pale Papaya 3/8″ Open Weave ribbon is delicate, and so pretty. Here’s a *tip* for tying a bow on this card. Cut a piece of ribbon that is 11-1/2″ long. Wrap it around the card, securing the ribbon together just under where you want the bow to be. You don’t want to glue it to the card, because you’re going to slip another piece underneath. This piece is then tied into a bow. Voila! You have a wonderful bow on the card that sits exactly the way you want it to.

Finally, this stamp set has phrases that work on the inside of cards as well. I added one to this card, along with a small piece of DSP at the bottom.
