Free as a Bird card & the Best of Friends

Good morning stampers! Today’s card features some of the products found in the new Bird Ballad Suite. I love this Free as a Bird card, and really enjoyed making it. This suite will easily be one of the most popular when the catalogue goes live on June 4th.

The colour combination on this card was taken directly from the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper. Here are the colours that you can find on the card:

The image was coloured with Stampin’ Blends, and die cut using the new Stitched Nested Labels dies. The largest die in the collection can cut some fairly big images, so these are worth having in your collection.

*Tip* The new dies are a bit thinner than the older Sizzix dies, so you may need to add a shim under your die cutting machine’s plates to ensure that your paper cuts properly.

Before I was told that Stampin’ Up! is switching die manufacturers, I found that the stitching didn’t cut completely through the paper. I was running it through my Big Shot 2-3 times to make sure that it did. You can see a bit of the stitching that was on issue in the photo below. Now I know that I will need to add a piece or two of copy paper under my plates.

I have mentioned this before, but I really like the 3/8″ Scalloped Lace Trim that is part of this suite. It’s very pliable, and ties really nicely. I did experiment to see if it can be coloured with Stampin’ Blends. It can, but I would stick with the lighter colours. Experimenting with ink refills/water is on my list of things to do.

One last thought about this card – the Crumb Cake Panel was embossed with the Pinewood Planks 3D embossing folder. I attached it with Stampin’ Dimensionals, with the raised edges facing down. I wanted a bit of texture, but with everything else going on, I didn’t want it to overwhelm the card.

Don’t forget – the Bird Ballad products will not be available until June 4th. The supply list for this post contains everything you need, however not all of the products are live at this point. You can shop my Online Store for all of your other stamping needs, and don’t forget to add the May Host Code (WMYVAPGB) to receive a Project Helper Tutorial at the end of the month as part of my Online Rewards Program. If your order is over $200, choose the Stampin’ Rewards instead, and I’ll still send the Tutorial.
