Today’s Flamingo Friday project is a wonderfully bright card with a gorgeous pink bird, and an embossed background. The Melon Mambo flamingo, combined with the Bermuda Bay & Coastal Cabana background, really make the card pop.
Thick Basic White cardstock is the base for this card, because it has been cut and folded on the long end. I find that you need the thicker cardstock for this fold because otherwise it slides flat. Be sure to score it first because you are folding against the grain, and you want a clean fold instead of something a bit raggedy.
The Coastal Cabana cardstock was cut with one of the Stitched Rectangles, and then embossed with the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder. A rectangle of Bermuda Bay cardstock is glued underneath to frame the embossed piece.
Monsieur Flamingo was die cut from Melon Mambo cardstock. Both wing shapes are layered and Melon Mambo ink was sponged around the edge of the top wing. I like the effect because it does add a bit of distinguishing colour to the bird. Next week I’m going to share the photos of my bird-making evening. It will give you a bit of insight as to how I create certain colour combos for flamingos and their backgrounds.
Last, but certainly not least, the wonderful phrase on the front is found in the Friendly Flamingo stamp set. It was embossed in white, and punched with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch. If you find that it’s difficult to punch the second end of the paper, just attach the end that has already been punched to a thin piece of a sticky note and feed it in.
