Stampin’ Up! Bloom & Grow with Cardstock Strips

Today’s projects were created with scrap In Color strips of cardstock and a sentiment from the Bloom & Grow set. There are two cards, to demonstrate how easy it is to take a project up a notch with some simple additions. In both cases, it’s easy to recycle small pieces of cardstock, but today we’re using them.

Our first card is quite basic. It’s a bunch of the 2019-2021 In Color strips of paper, cut at random lengths, and glued to a piece of Basic Gray cardstock. All of these colours will be retiring on May 3rd, but there’s an extremely good chance that some or all of the In Color products will be gone before then because they’re available while supplies last. All will appear on the retiring list on March 24th, and I highly encourage you to purchase your products early.

Retiring colours:

  • Pretty Peacock – cardstock, Classic Ink & refill, ribbon
  • Purple Posy – cardstock & ribbon only
  • Rococo Rose – cardstock, Classic Ink & refill, ribbon
  • Seaside Spray – cardstock, Classic Ink & refill, ribbon
  • Terracotta Tile – cardstock, Classic Ink & refill, ribbon

Each strip is 1/4″, and the gray cardstock is 3-3/4″ wide so that each colour appears 3 times. They are all in a set order across the card, which I came up with after playing with them. The phrase on the front is in the Bloom & Grow stamp set, and was stamped using Pretty Peacock Classic Ink. It’s a fun card, but pretty unspectacular.

Now… when we add a few elements, the card looks like this:

What did I add to this project? The Basic Gray background was embossed with the Tasteful Texture 3D embossing folder. After the cardstock strips were layered on, I wrapped the layer with a piece of Pretty Peacock Scalloped Linen Ribbon.

The phrase was stamped and heat embossed by inking the stamp with Versamark, and then immediately adding Pretty Peacock ink. After stamping the phrase onto the white cardstock, I sprinkled clear embossing powder over top and used my Heat Tool to set the powder. The result is a slightly darker colour, with the raised text.

Finally, I added three Opal Rounds to the card. All of the above contribute to the upgrade of the project, but none of them take a significant amount of extra time.
