Spiral Dye Emboss Resist Card Idea

Happy Friday! Today’s project is a Spiral Dye Emboss Resist Card that I made live on Facebook last night. I have two different cards that use this technique, and they are very different from each other. You’ll see why as you scroll down. I have also added a quick downloadable tutorial, and have uploaded last night’s Facebook Live to YouTube (the first time I have done this!)

The first project is the one that I made last night. I won’t go through the individual steps, because you can download the tutorial and watch the video. It is a fairly easy card to make, it just requires a bit of time and patience because you are swirling two colours onto cardstock. Generally I don’t recommend this because you could end up with some decent smooshes of colour that are next to impossible to blend out, but you can on this card because of the tight embossing of the spiral in the centre.

Looking at the two cards side by side, the one that I made live has the darker centre. I think that the lights threw me off slightly, because I normally craft about 5 feet to my left of the area where I film. The result is the intensity is different. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

Now… I mentioned that there is a second Spiral Dye Emboss Resist card that is very different from the one above. It’s *significantly* brighter!

Magenta Madness is an extremely polarizing colour. It’s good for some high powered flamingos, and looks exceptional when paired with black, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

On this card, I chose to use clear embossing powder instead of white. It picked up more of the magenta ink, which makes the card even more pink. Even after I ran my trusty paper towel over to pull the excess ink from the embossing.

It’s a bit shocking to see this one beside the other, but it’s wise to remember that not everyone enjoys the same style of cards. There are some that will prefer the bright over the subtle. Personally, I’m a Regals kind of gal because I like jewel tones. The colours that I use the least are the Subtles, almost always preferring the In Colours over them. So, while even I find the Magenta Madness a bit overwhelming, I’d be more than happy to receive this in my mailbox. It’s a fun card!

To see how this card goes together, watch the YouTube Video. Download the tutorial below for measurements and specific instructions.
