Good morning stampers! Today’s easy birthday card is one that is pretty easy to stamp with the Piece of Cake stamp set. It has a lot of impact because of the bright colour scheme.
The starting point for this card was the How Sweet It Is Suite, found on pages 14-15 in the Occasions catalogue. I opted to use the Melon Mambo striped paper from the How Sweet It Is pack of Designer Series Paper as a background behind the cake.
Adding the Coastal Cabana/Granny Apple Green 3/8″ Reversible Ribbon to the card was a no brainer, because these colours are also part of the suite. Once I had these three colours, it was easy to add them to the birthday cake itself.
*Tip* For really solid colour on your cake layers, stamp the cake onto three different pieces of cardstock: Coastal Cabana, Granny Apple Green and the main Whisper White panel that you’re going to die cut into a rectangle. Fussy cut the two layers, and glue them to the white cardstock.
The cake stand was coloured using my light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend. I could stamped it on Smoky Slate and punched it out, but there would have been a border around the stand. Colouring the stand was quicker and easier than cutting it out. Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write markers (found in the Brights collection) were used to colour the candles.
When attaching the ribbon, you could glue it to the card and then pop the panel on top. That would work. I opted to glue the ribbon to the back of the stamped panel, and then attach the Stampin’ Dimensionals around the ribbon. This ensured that I didn’t end up with any odd ripples in the paper or ribbon.
