Happy Friday! Today’s starry night card features the Inspiring Canopy dies and a stamp from the Inspired Thoughts set. It’s smaller than most cards, because it’s notecard sized (5″x3-1/2″). I love the contrast, which is a different look from the other projects I have posted this week. Let’s have a peek.
Last weekend I was messing around with watercolour paper and reinkers. I like creating backgrounds with them because you get a different look each time. To recreate the look of this starry night background, cut a piece of watercolour paper that is about an inch wider on both sides than what will be on your finished piece. Use green painter’s tape along all edges, to attach it to a piece of scrap paper. I have a dollar store cutting board that I attach my paper to, so that I don’t have to worry about water seeping through to my table.
Spritz the paper with water until it is wet but not saturated to the point where water is rolling off of it. Pick up Night of Navy ink with a wet Water Painter, and drop onto the cardstock. The colour will spread immediately. Continue dropping ink until the paper is covered, and move it around with the Water Painter. You need to be quick with this step, otherwise you’ll end up with solid blotches. Once finished, set it aside to dry. You can use a Heat Tool to dry the paper – it may give you a slightly different look, which is marvelous.
You’ll notice that there are white dots on the background. I added these with my White Chalk Marker, and then added a bit of Wink of Stella on top. The rhinestones were added to the card as the very last step.
Watercolour paper has a texture to it, so it can be difficult to heat emboss words or images onto it. Nevertheless, I did that on this card, using white embossing powder. The tree was cut and glued with Multipurpose Liquid Glue, and I added a small Night of Navy hill to cover the edges. I had a lot of trouble deciding what to do for leaves. This card isn’t meant to be a Christmas card, so I didn’t want to leave the tree bare. However, when I added navy leaves to the image, it was far too dark. So, I opted for vellum because it gives the illusion of leaves, if they were illuminated by light.
I have made a Christmas card with this bundle – you’ll see it a bit later this year because it’s only May! It’s a little awkward to post holiday cards now when the weather has finally turned warm and sunny.
Don’t forget that you can purchase the Inspiring Thoughts stamp set and Inspiring Canopy dies separately, or purchase them together as a bundle to save 10%. Thanks for stopping by today. I’m always attracted to cards with a starry night sky, and die cuts of the trees in Inspiring Canopy set work so well with it. I encourage you to have a look at page 52 of the catalogue for more projects created with the Inspired Thoughts bundle. It’s going to be a gorgeous weekend. Spend time outside during the day, and stamp at night. Until Monday… Happy Stamping!
