Good Morning Stampers! Today’s card was created with the new Free as a Bird stamp set, and features a bit a watercoloured background on the card. This card was part of my OnStage presentation, and I love its simplicity.
The Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper is lovely, and I enjoyed trying to add it to as many projects as possible while creating my OnStage samples. Each sheet has a bold pattern on one side, with a smaller pattern on the reverse. I often find it difficult to use the larger patterns, so I opted to use one of the larger patterns behind the bird.
Here’s a quick tidbit about the DSP itself. The paper was originally created in black and white, and then coloured by the Stampin’ Up! concept artists with our Stampin’ Blends. At that point, the images were manipulated by computer to create the seamless pattern in the paper.
Creating the watercolour background is quite easy. Using an Aqua-Painter, I quickly went over the paper to add a layer of water – not too much though! The three colour layer was added with Crumb Cake, Bermuda Bay and Pool Party. When adding them to the paper, don’t try to blend them, otherwise you’ll end up with a watery mess. Stamp the bird once the paper is dry.
Did you notice the bow? It is one of the new Bird Ballad Trinkets! They have a lovely antique brass finish, and can be added to a project with Glue Dots. Watch for different designs in future posts.
Don’t forget – none of these products will be available until June 4th, so I can’t add a supply list to this post. However, you can shop my Online Store for all of your other stamping needs, and don’t forget to add the April Host Code (HJ6UFBPV) to receive a Project Helper Tutorial at the end of the month as part of my Online Rewards Program. If your order is over $200, choose the Stampin’ Rewards instead, and I’ll still send the Tutorial!

Don’t forget:
- The lists of items that are retiring on June 3rd have been released. Everything that isn’t a stamp is available on a first-come, first-served basis. I would NOT wait to order any of these items. Click HERE for details on what is available.
- Week 3 of my Back to Basics Training Course went off the rails last week. Apparently it was an ambitious goal trying to post everything on a week that is bookended by OnStage and Easter. We’re going to be back at it a bit later today. We’re still talking about paper, and resources will be posted in the exclusive Back to Basics Facebook Group as the week goes on. If you would like to be included in that group, you will find the group pinned to the top of my Wendy’s Little Inklings Facebook page. Just click to join and I’ll add you in!
Thanks for stopping by to see my Free as a Bird project, with a watercoloured background. I’m waiting for the sun to peek out behind the clouds, but I already heard chirping this morning when I opened the door. So glad that the birds have returned. Happy Stamping!
