Good afternoon stampers! Today’s Free as a Bird Ombre card was created several months ago (!) and is the favourite of all of the cards that I stamped before OnStage.
The inspiration for this card came from a that I saw online. It was created using a different company’s stamps, but it had the same type of ombre base. So, I ran with it!
Using sponges and one colour of ink, I gently sponged the cardstock, starting with a light touch. After I had a bit of a base, I began adding more ink and a firmer motion to the corners, working my way across the bottom and up the sides. Remember… you can add more ink, but you can’t take it off. Start light and gradually add a heavier touch.
*Tip* To avoid seeing “sponge marks”, start off the edge of your cardstock, and move towards the centre.
Shimmery White cardstock is the base white on the front, and I stamped the bird on the same type of cardstock. Colour was added with Stampin’ Blends, and then I fussy cut him out. The branch was cut from Soft Suede cardstock, and the die can be found in the Seasonal Layers die set. Here’s a close-up of these elements.
I mentioned that I stamped this card before OnStage. It didn’t end up traveling to Quebec City with me, because I love it too much to take the chance on it being wrecked along the way. I’m not sure that I’ll be able to give it to someone. It may sit on a shelf for awhile first. Pathetic eh?

Thanks for stopping by! I hope that you like today’s Free as a Bird Ombre card, but I’ll understand if it doesn’t turn your crank the same way it turns mine. Everyone has their own style. Until tomorrow, Happy Stamping!
I came to visit to see your last few posts as I have been neglectful and feeling bad. It was nice to see this one pop up first. Here I can see the branch cut out, making it even more special. After you decide to send it, I have just the person in mind that may need a pick me up! Lol
Thank you!! I really do love this card, and have someone in mind to send it to. The best part of cardmaking is that you can always make another one 🙂
