Last week I posted link to download the updated Stampin’ Up! Colour Coach. Today I’m quickly stopping by to show you how and why to create your own Stampin’ Up! Colour Tool. It’s something that I have at home, which helps me immensely when creating a card. It will take a bit of time to make, but it’s SO worth it when it’s finished.
I’m certain that you’ve seen this style of cardstock organizer before. You may even have one created by me in the past. It’s a simple design: 3″x3″ pieces of cardstock, with a hole punched in the corner. A scrapbook post holds the whole thing together, although you could certainly a ring.
In the above photo, you can see three colours have been pulled out – this is a colour combo on the Boho Blue rectangle from the printable Stampin’ Up! colour coach, and the one that I was using last week on thank you cards.
The one that you see above has more cardstock than what’s available in the current catalogue, because I keep most of my retired cardstock for scrapbooking. Not that I’ve done any recently… I had a goal to finish two pages a week in 2022. That did NOT happen. I need to get back to it though because I haven’t finished my 2013 vacation, and it’s now 2023. But I digress.
Here’s the little Wendy piece of this idea. I cut two sets of squares: one goes onto the post, and the second is added to a loose pile of current cardstock. All of the squares have the colour names printed on them, so that I’m not second guessing myself when looking at them under LED lights.
The three colours that have been pulled out in the above stack are the same ones on the right side of the above photo. The reason that I have a set of loose pieces, is because it allows me to play with the combo. Questions I might ask myself include:
- Which do I want as the primary colour of the card?
- What colour or size should the mat be?
- Which ribbon works best?
- Do I need to switch any of these colours around to achieve what I want?
- Would a different colour work better on my card?
- Do I want a colour (rather than white or vanilla) for my sentiment?
I’m certain there are some people out there that think this won’t work for them, and that’s fine. I have to tell you though, for a extremely visual person, this is a time and cardstock saver. Give it a try!
