Sometimes it’s fun to create a card that uses unexpected colours. Today’s Country Home Watercolour Pencil card, coloured with Stampin’ Up!’s fantastic Watercolour Pencils is different in both colour and technique. Scroll down to find out why, and see additional photos of the detail.
The first thing you’ll notice about this card is that they overall colour scheme is a little different from the bulk of the cards that you’ll find in Pinterest. I’ll bet you didn’t think of using this stamp set with Highland Heather! It looks really sharp though with Basic Black. You can find the Thank You phrase in the Wood Words stamp set. The stamp is the perfect size for circles.
The second thing that you’ll notice is that the card is coloured with Watercolour Pencils, but not blended with an Aqua Painter. Actually, the colour of the table at the bottom has been, but only because I didn’t want a defined line that looked it had been drawn with a ruler.
I do not consider myself to be an artist on any level (I leave that to my successful sister, who sells a lot of her art online), but I’m pleased with the shading of the can on this card. When colouring with pencils, just take your time and use a light touch. It’s always easier to add colour than to take it off. Here’s a closer look at the coloured image. I tried to add a bit more shading around the leaves, and I sort of succeeded. I’m sure if my grade 9 art teacher saw this she’d have something to say because my shading was always lacking when colouring with pencils. At this point in my life, I’m really not concerned 🙂
*Tip* Take your time shading with Watercolour Pencils. It’s easier to add colour than to erase it!
The colours used came from the second Watercolour Pencils set that we offered in August. They aren’t available for purchase right now (sadness!), but I’m hoping they make an appearance in the next Annual Catalogue. Switching up the colours so that you can use the current Watercolour Pencils would not be difficult. Everything else on the card is current.
