It’s September, so the leaves are *just* starting to turn, with a few falling from their trees. Last month we created some pretty fall backgrounds using glossy card stock and re-inkers. I made a couple of sample pieces before creating the actual cards to make sure that I was happy with the colours, and to determine which colour of embossing powder to use. I don’t like tossing things out just because they are samples, so I created another fall-themed birthday card. This Colorful Seasons fall leaves embossed card fits the bill nicely.
The colours on the glossy paper are Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry, which are the same colours that the leaves have been stamped in. Both the coloured leaf and sentiment were embossed in gold. I tried copper embossing powder on my sample piece, but it just didn’t look right. The other sample piece includes some Cherry Cobbler, and the copper looked fantastic on this piece while the gold was simply ho-hum. Sometimes it pays to try things out on sample pieces – you destroy less card stock that way!
A vellum leaf, die cut using the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, adds texture without heaviness to the card, and the Gold Metallic Thread helps to tie the card together with the chosen embossing powder. Adding a bit of stamping inside the card always finishes it off nicely. In this case, a few leaves is all that’s necessary.
*Tip* The card front was masked so that there is a strip of unstamped leaves underneath the sentiment. The easiest way to achieve this is with 1″ Post-It tape. So easy, with no fiddly bits of paper.
