You may have heard the news yesterday… Stampin’ Up! is discontinuing the Stampin’ Trimmer and the Big Shot. Before you go into panic mode, please keep reading.
We’ll start with the Stampin’ Trimmer. It will be retired as of June 3, 2019, including all accessories – replacement cutting blades, scoring blades, and cutting mats. The company has experienced challenges with their supplier, and are taking this opportunity to research and explore a replacement option for this product, which will not be the same as the current Trimmer.
There will be a gap between the time the Trimmer is retired and the new product is released. I will pass along the info as soon as it has been posted by Stampin’ Up! In the meantime, the company has ordered what they feel is six months of inventory, and will be receiving intermittent shipments from the supplier.
*Tip* You can currently purchase cutting blades, up to a maximum limit of 3 sets a time. As of April 15, this will increase to 6 sets. If you try to order and they are unorderable at that time (because they don’t want huge backorders), you will have an option to enter your e-mail and receive notification when they are available.
Next up… the Big Shot. In my view, this isn’t nearly as dire as it seems. Why? Because we are retiring the Big Shot, platforms and cutting plates. Stampin’ Up! is still offering dies and embossing folders in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalogue. Stampin’ Up! has run into challenges developing the new machine, so we will not have a die cutting machine in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalogue.
Why is Stampin’ Up! taking this route? Simply put, they are an innovative company, and are pursuing a better die-cutting and embossing line. I’m all for this. Innovative companies are the ones that survive and I’m proud to represent this company when others in the industry have scaled back or disappeared altogether.
The new dies and embossing folders will be manufactured differently. I can’t speak for what the folders will look like, but I have a set of the new dies, and while they are a smidge thinner, they still have that solid feel to them. You may need to add a shim under your platforms (like a piece of cardstock) to make sure they cut properly, but I like the ones that I have.
Dies that are carrying over the new catalogue will be manufactured using the new supplier. For those that are not carrying over, we may see supplies run out. When they’re gone, they’re gone.
I’m certain that we’ll receive additional information at OnStage this weekend. When I return, I will post whatever tidbits I can, as well as the retirement list which is being released on Monday.
In the meantime… if you would like replacement Trimmer Blades (which may already be on backorder) or Big Shot plates, order them quickly. Shop my Online Store to orders yours. If you need retiring In Colour paper, ink or refills, this is an excellent time to add them as well. Don’t forget to add the April Host Code (HJ6UFBPV) to receive a Project Helper Tutorial at the end of the month as part of my Online Rewards Program. If your order is over $200, choose the Stampin’ Rewards instead, and I’ll still send the Tutorial!
