Good morning stampers! I’ve got lots going on today, but wanted to share this pretty card with you before I head out to the ice pad. It features the flower from the Beautiful Day watercolored with Brusho. Creating the flower is easier than you might thing, and you can easily achieve a pretty result.
Before we move on… It’s Test Day at the skating club, and two of my kids are trying tests today. Cross your fingers for them! They have quite a bit of skating on tap over the next week and a half as they prepare for the Provincial Championships, so my schedule is a little off at the moment. We also have a visitor this morning. He’s adorable, and has the most wicked cattitude about him. That’s right… Gizmo is back! Here he is. Cute little turkey eh?
One of the cards created by stampers in February’s Brusho card class was this pretty Happy Birthday card with the watercolored flower. You may have seen it before, because I used it in my advertisements for the class (follow me on Facebook and/or Instagram for sneak peeks!) I’m blogging about it today to share some details about how it was created.
Beautiful Day has large images that are perfect for watercolouring with Aquapainters, or filling in with Stampin’ Blends (something we will be doing during my Blends class next week).
How did I watercolour the flower so neatly? Simple. The flower image was embossed on watercolour paper, using white embossing powder. When you drop the ink into the petals and leaves, it doesn’t “stick” to the outline. You may have a little bit of colour pooling there, but it’s easy to wipe off with a small piece of paper towel. The colour itself is Gamboge Brusho, mixed with water in a small palette. I painted the entire flower, and then went back and added some shading. I did end up mixing a bit more after running out of the first batch of ink, but I just used the second batch for the shading because it was a tad darker. If you find that it’s too dark when you paint it onto the paper, blot off the excess. You can mix more water into what you have in the palette.
The flower was trimmed with my Paper Snips, and they glued directly to the card. The only Stampin’ Dimensionals on the card are under the sentiment. I did add some sequins, and used some of my leftover Paper Pumpkin adhesive dots to glue them down. SO easy!!! Never get rid of supplies that have some value, and these dots are useful for all kinds of other projects.
