All cardmakers know that masculine cards are infinitely more difficult to create than your typical birthday, friendship, or sympathy cards. Women are exceptional at adding layers, sparkle, and embellishments to cards. They create mini masterpieces that they’re proud to give to friends and family. Guys don’t like sparkle. They probably don’t really care about embellishments and layers. I know that I’m pigeonholing a whole segment of the population, and that some of them do appreciate glitter, but for today we’ll go with no. Which brings me to today’s Birthday Wit Star Card.
Pacific Point and Pumpkin Pie is a great combination for a younger boy’s birthday card. I didn’t create this card with anyone in mind, but wanted to create a project that had the die cut opening on the front, showing the sentiment through that opening. The Happy Birthday stamp from the Birthday Wit stamp set fits the opening perfectly, and I was able to colour the sentiment with a Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write marker. The extra piece of Whisper White allows the sender to write a message that can’t be seen when the card is closed.
Stars are one of those natural elements that you can add to a boyish card. In this case, they provide focal points for both the card front and inside of the card, helping to tie the whole project together. I don’t have any of the current star punches, so I went back to one of my old favourites. Stars show up frequently in my scrapbooks, so I never sell off my star punches or stamps. Kind of like with my flamingo stamps. Selling them off is out of the question.
